The strategic repositioning of Private Equity funds

In recent years, Private Equity (PE) funds in Italy have changed their positioning strategies. In the past, they focussed on investing in traditional businesses with considerable cash flow, while today, their focus has shifted to technological, innovative and dematerialized industries. Fund sizes have also changed: Small funds have decreased, while Mid and Large funds have grown due to economies of scale and the ability to quickly adapt to changing market dynamics.

Furthermore, geographical expansion and industry specialization have favoured the competitiveness of portfolio companies, with greater attention to industries such as Healthcare, Industrial Products, Manufacturing, Food and Beverages and, more recently, Energy and Environment, following sustainability and technological innovation megatrends.
